Royal Red
On the 21st of January, 2014, Swastiman Baojiraj Sahib Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar of Udaipur, Rajasthan, was married to Swastimati Maharaj Kumari Sahiba Nivritti Kumari Singh Deo of Patna Balangir, Odisha. The union of the royal families was a grand and joyous occasion, both in the commitment the Prince and Princess made to each other and in keeping the tradition of wedding customs from days gone by. Prince Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar is the son of the 76th custodian of the Mewar dynasty in Udaipur, Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar, who follows the concept of “Living Heritage” and paying tribute to royal traditions, and so the wedding celebrations of his son embodied those of royal weddings from generations before. The splendor and grandeur of these ceremonies were certainly fit for a prince, and each day of festivities reminded the world of the glory of royalty in the incredible country of India. The historical significance and attention to tradition that would characterize the entire wedding were immediately apparent, from the colors, jewelry, and adornments worn proudly by the Prince and Princess and their wedding parties to the elaborate processions that were to take place. The wedding ceremonies took place both in Udaipur and Odisha. Udaipur is a center of heritage, art, architecture, tourism, and spirituality, preserving a rich legacy of the Maharanas of Mewar in Rajasthan. Covered in spectacular decorations celebrating the occasion, the ornate City Palace overlooking the spectacular Lake Pichola was the venue for festivities in Udaipur. In Odisha, the façade of the Patna Balangir palace had been elaborately recreated for the joyous festivities. A whirlwind of colorful sights, melodious sounds, and delectable tastes, the spectacular wedding between Prince Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar of Udaipur and Princess Nivritti Kumari Singh Deo of Patna Balangir exceeded all expectations in its splendor and commitment to tradition. It invoked images and feelings of generations past and reminded India and the world of the magnificence of the royal history of such a remarkable country.
